Arts of Ecology Residency

In 2022 LIOS Labs organised three rounds of Arts of Ecology Residencies in Błędowska Desert, inviting 99 international artists to live and work in the desert, in the course of July. Each residency lasted 10-days, however some of the artists stayed for two or three rounds.
Round 1: Building Infrastructure was open to practitioners, willing to start from scratch, meaning to move into the emptiness of the desert and lay the ground infrastructure for the residency camp.
Round 2: Dancing with the Elements was open to all practitioners, regardless of artistic medium or level of proficiency, it prioritised sharing practices for human and beyond-human regeneration, adaptation, movement, and care. The schedule was organised around peer-to-peer workshops, collective cooking, siestas by the lake, forest foraging and spontaneous celebrations.
While experiencing the programme, we questioned the linearity of time, and the numeric system of scheduling, as the desert is a space where time feels enigmatic. We experimented with going back to the solar clock, trusting that collective intelligence will guide us.
Round 3: Living the Dream, like the previous round, welcomed artists from all fields to come together and experience collective dreaming. During the ten-day residency participants exchanged practices, performed choirs/rituals, gathered by the fire night by night to weave their dreams, and literally, weave branches into a basket, dye fabrics with natural colours, collect clay from the nearby lake, and prepare the ground for the grand finale—SotF festival.
