From Gate-Keeping to Gate-Opening: Fostering Agency in Troubled Times Residency
Torhaus, Berlin, Germany
2023
Nestled within the historic Torhaus, the original gateway to Tempelhofer Feld, "From Gate-Keeping to Gate-Opening: Fostering Agency in Troubled Times" is a multidisciplinary theatre lab. Open to the public, targeting the local community of Berlin-Tempelhof, the programme unfolds as a journey of introspection, inviting participants to expand their ecological imagination. At its core, the program addresses the dual meanings of 'agency'—a term intimately linked with modern air travel—seeking to empower individuals to become architects of their own lives and shape our shared destinies.
Over the course of a two-week residency at Torhaus, LIOS Labs' softcore agents Hanna Whitlow, Xtina Ariaz, and Jo Vávra guide participants through an array of experiments, lectures and co-created rituals. This includes research and knowledge sharing topics such as local cosmologies, queering nature, embodied poetry and unbraiding colonial dissonance.
