SAAT Library
Berlin, Germany
2025
SAAT is a pilot community library dedicated to ecological thinking, collective learning, and the cultivation of new imaginaries. Emerging from the Sowing Seeds in the Desert residency—supported by the Culture Moves Europe programme—five artists and researchers came together in Berlin to study social and urban desertification and to imagine forms of regeneration.
From this research grew the idea of a seed library: a space that holds both literal seeds and metaphorical seeds—ideas, practices, stories, and gestures that can catalyse change in our social and urban landscapes. SAAT expands the notion of a library beyond books, embracing translation in many forms: linguistic, somatic, sonic, visual, and relational.
Throughout its first cycle, SAAT opened its doors to the public with a programme of community readings, book presentations, game salons, workshops, and somatic practices. The space operated as a temporary commons for learning, rest, and cross-pollination.
We call SAAT a pilot because it marks the beginning of a longer journey. Our intention is to grow the library into a permanent, evolving space for ecological community practice and multilingual knowledge-sharing.
